CDS 56th Annual Championship Show featuring over $30,000 in Prize Money and Awards Kicks off Day 1 with Prix St. Georges Champion Awards and more.

RANCHO MURIETA, CA (Sept. 21, 2023) — Yvonne Christine Kaul Weiss of Santa Rosa, Calif., rode her 10-year-old KWPN gelding Apache Horsea to victory in the $1,000 CDS Prix St. Georges HOY A/A sponsored by Las Vegas Chapter/Global Imagine Perpetual on Day One of the 56th Annual Dressage Society Championship Show with a 67.574% score in a field of eight. Yvonne, who lives in Santa Rosa Valley and rides in Southern California with Patty Mayer, imported the 17.1 hand horse from The Netherlands a year ago without the “test ride” initially planned. (Her passport had expired!). “He is really expressive, supple and powerful,” said Yvonne after her opening day win. Emily Wilson of Vacaville, Calif, took second place with a 63.382% score on her 10-year-old Andalusian gelding Hebreo De Ymas IV.

Tracey Hill of Concord, Calif. rode Joann Ray Hansen’s 9 year old Danish Warmblood mare Gorklintgards Kiwi to a 67.574% score to win the $1,000 CDS Prix St Georges HOY Open sponsored by Sterling Essentials/Bent Roswell Perpetual in a class of eight. “I got her three years ago in Florida. She was invited to go to Chicago, but unfortunately we had a little hiccup in our plan that didn’t allow us to participate. We shifted our focus to coming to this show and were lucky enough to come out on top today,” said Tracey. “She is just a unicorn. She’s very relaxed, but is incredibly fancy movement-wise. Kind of the best of both worlds. Her owner is about to have her 80th birthday She said this win was the perfect present.” Jaclyn N. Pepper-Millard of Santa Rosa, Calif., took second place in the class with a 66.691% score aboard Marsha Busekist’s 7-year-old dark brown KWPN mare Limited Edition.

In the Great American/ USDF Open Int II Level Regional Championship class of five. Jackie Ahl-Eckhaus of San Luis Obispo, Calif., rode her homebred Dutch Warmblood Jett MVS to a 66.176% winning score. “He was a tiny foal and a tiny young horse. He was small, but there was always something special about him. He had the look of eagles even then. He was tiny but he was mighty. He tries to do what you want. He’s only nine and he’s showing us there’s an incredible horse in there.” In second place, Patty Mayer of Santa Rosa Valley, Calif. rode her 12 year old Danish gelding Pio to a 65.662% score to reserve champion in the class of five.
